Share
What is ProClean?
ProClean Moss and Algae Cleaner is a professional-grade outdoor cleaning solution designed to remove stubborn moss, algae, mould, and lichen from a wide range of hard surfaces. It is widely used by homeowners, landscapers, and contractors to restore patios, driveways, roofs, walls, and paving.
Active ingredient
The primary active ingredient in ProClean is sodium hypochlorite, a highly effective oxidising agent commonly used for outdoor cleaning. It works by breaking down organic growth, making it easier to remove moss, algae, and lichen from exterior surfaces.
Purpose and use cases
ProClean is formulated to kill and remove moss, algae, and lichen on exterior hard surfaces, including:
- Patios and paving slabs
- Driveways
- Brickwork and walls
- Roof tiles (manufacturer-approved only)
- Concrete paths and block paving
ProClean is available in 5L and 25L containers, making it suitable for both residential and commercial use.

How to use ProClean – step-by-step application guide
1. Prepare the area
- Remove as much loose moss, dirt, and debris as possible.
- A thorough pressure wash is recommended before chemical application to maximise penetration.
- Wet nearby plants, grass, and sensitive surfaces to minimise potential chemical effects.
- Choose a suitable weather window, ideally a dry, overcast day with minimal wind.
2. Dilution
- ProClean can be used neat (undiluted) or diluted up to 1:5 (1 part ProClean to 5 parts water).
- For heavy moss, algae, or black lichen, use a stronger concentration.
- For routine cleaning or light contamination, use a diluted mixture.
- When unsure, always test on a small, inconspicuous area first.
3. Application
- Apply using a watering can or low-pressure garden sprayer.
- Coat the affected area evenly to ensure consistent results.
- For rough or textured surfaces, gently brush the product in to improve contact.
- Allow sufficient dwell time for the product to break down organic growth.
- Refer to the product label or technical data sheet for recommended dwell times.
4. Rinsing
- After the dwell time, rinse thoroughly using a hose or low-pressure washer.
- Ensure all residue is removed, as leftover chemical can damage plants or mark surfaces.
5. Repeat and maintenance
- Stubborn moss or lichen may require a second application.
- For long-term prevention, reapply ProClean periodically depending on how quickly algae or moss returns.
ProClean safety considerations
As ProClean contains sodium hypochlorite, a strong bleach-based cleaning agent, the following safety precautions must be followed:
- Wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, safety goggles, long sleeves, and sturdy footwear.
- Avoid inhaling mist or spray and only use outdoors in well-ventilated areas.
- Environmental safety is critical, as the product is highly toxic to aquatic life. Avoid runoff and never pour undiluted product into drains, ponds, or watercourses.
- Store the container tightly sealed in a cool, shaded area.
- Keep away from acids, as mixing with acids can release toxic chlorine gas.
Disposal
- Small quantities (under approximately 5L) may be diluted and disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
- Larger quantities should be disposed of as hazardous waste, following guidance in the Safety Data Sheet.
